Event Description:
Cruising in the Shadows is a bold and provocative exhibition that explores the secret histories of LGBTQ+ public desire in New York City. Featuring never-before-seen photographs of 1960s Central Park cruisers by Arthur Tress, subversive illustrations by Robert Sherer, and rare archival materials—including Bob Damron’s Address Book and a section from the AIDS Memorial Quilt—the show reveals how queer people have historically sought connection in public spaces. Curated by Matthew Terrell, this exhibition honors the ingenuity, danger, and resilience of cruising culture.
