Kanzashi Flower Ornament Workshop

Join Sara Gdula to craft hana kanzashi tsumami, or ornamental flower hairpieces. These hairpieces are crafted by folding and pinching small squares of silk to form the petals of flowers. The most traditionally crafted kanzashi are worn by geisha in Japan, however we will explore a slightly different method which includes the same folding technique combined with sewing to create beautiful flowers that can be incorporated into hairpieces, jewelry, and gifts among other applications. A brief look at the history and craft will be followed by a hands-on workshop.
Each guest will design their own flowers, create individual petals, and join them together to make their own unique piece. All materials will be provided.
