Step back and confront the chilling reality of Philadelphia’s most devastating epidemic on our Yellow Fever Tour at Christ Church Burial Ground. In the summer of 1793, a terrifying fever swept through the city, then the nation’s capital, killing thousands and sending panic through the streets.

This guided tour will lead you through the very grounds where many of the victims—and heroes—of the outbreak were laid to rest. As you walk among the headstones, you’ll learn about the medical theories of the time, the societal breakdown caused by the disease, and the remarkable resilience of a city under siege. This tour offers a unique and somber look into a pivotal moment in Philadelphia’s history, exploring themes of public health, heroism, and the enduring human spirit in the face of tragedy.
